Family Love: Oil, Cement, Music
“In family life, love is the oil that eases friction, the cement that binds closer together, and the music that brings harmony.” - Eva Burrows
“All happy families resemble one another, each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.”
- Leo Tolstoy
“Family faces are magic mirrors. Looking at people who belong to us, we see the past, present and future. We make discoveries about ourselves.” -Gail Lumet Buckley
“There’s no vocabulary for love within a family, love that’s lived in but not looked at, love within the light of which all else is seen, the love within which all other love finds speech. This love is silent.” - T. S. Eliot
“If you look deeply into the palm of your hand, you will see your parents and all generations of your ancestors. All of them are alive in this moment. Each is present in your body. You are the continuation of each of these people.”
- Thich Nhat Hanh

this is why you are so talented you see the beauty in people, i think this is something that is very much transcended in your pictures, you can almost see the people from within through your pictures.
Thank you for giving this to us.

A wonderful collection of images. I was struck by the truth of that Tolstoy quote, and Thich Nhat Hanh is such a wonderful writer, too.

I feel grateful that you put photos on this site that you can’t see anywhere else. The shot of the light coming into the room in north Afghanistan struck me and I found myself stopping to look at everything in the photo. It reminds me another one of your photos of a man praying in the light of small window in a temple.

Cambodia is sad……it brought tears….man without a leg and little girl bare- footed. You have captured them for that moment in time. I wonder how their life is afterwards….are they suffering ? Is anyone helping them ? Will their lives be better ?
