Eloquence of the Eye
The soul has an interpreter – often an unconscious but still a faithful interpreter – in the eye.
- Charlotte Bronte
The eyes have one language everywhere.
- Proverb
The eye is the jewel of the body.
- Henry David Thoreau
Almost nothing need be said when you have eyes.
- Tarjei Vesaas, Norwegian Poet
The eye through which I see God is the same eye through which God sees me;
my eye and God’s eye are one eye, one seeing, one knowing, one love.
- Meister Eckhart, 1259 – 1327
These eyes tell the stories of children around the world.
They speak of war, deprivation, and loss.
From women’s eyes this doctrine I derive:
They sparkle still the right Promethean fire;
They are the books, the arts, the academes,
That show, contain and nourish all the world.
- William Shakespeare, Love’s Labour’s Lost
The eyes indicate the antiquity of the soul.
- Ralph Waldo Emerson
There is a road from the eye to heart that does not go through the intellect.
- G. K. Chesterton
The eyes speak of things we dare not say.
The eye sees only what the mind is prepared to comprehend.
-Henri Bergson
The eyes are the most powerful social signalers that we have and hence are
sometimes called the windows of the soul.
- Glen Wilson
The countenance is the portrait of the soul, and the eyes mark its intentions.
- Marcus Tullius Cicero, 106 – 43 BCE
Eyes are more accurate witnesses than ears.
- Heraclitus of Ephesus, 535 – c. 475 BCE
Could a greater miracle take place than for us to
look through each other’s eyes for an instant?
- Henry David Thoreau
Eyes have their own universal language, and no
interpreter is needed.
The eyes can do a thousand things that fingers can not.
- Persian Proverb

Into one’s soul, a door opens threw our eyes
No words need be said, our hearts are there
So easy to see the sorrow that can’t be denied
Windows that shows the hopelessness and despair
Also the joy and kindness are opened to see
The goodness of your own being laid out
Everyone’s hope or what we want to be
They show the true you or what we are about

Captivating……When we see with a singe eye,
We are told biblically that we shall see God .until then… “We see but do not see.”
Your photography and quotes speak volumnes without speaking a word.

March 5, 2013 at 01:14
Eyes, different doors leading to the soul of each one of these faces.
The common point I see here is that they are staring at the photographer, or the viewer with such a steady stare,
as if in their turn they ‘register’ or they ‘imprint’ in their memory the observer. A relationship of equal exchange is
established and this is rare in photography, I think.
I do not know if it is my impression only. Anyway, it stays with you, this staring. Thank you!

It is incredible how a person’s eyes reflect his life experiences and how well he or she processed them. In most eyes the pain suffered of being human is clearly visible. Wonderful photos, very interesting story, and lovely poems! Thank you for sharing!
